So I was contacted a few weeks back by the creators of Co-Pilot and they gave me access (thank you) to their (which has also recently been updated). My verdict on it is that its actually pretty amazing – I still find it hard to believe that they are charging such a cheap price for such a quality product – superior to the TomTom in my honest opinion. Hope you like the video
UPDATE: Co-Pilot got in touch with me after watching this review and they tell me significant advances in the UI are on their way, an update is in progress and should be available soon. In this video, I basically show you around and tell you why I think its better than the TomTom. You can join me on Twitter: www.twitter.com Feel free to visit my OTHER youtube channel: www.youtube.com Feel free to comment, rate and please do subscribe. Cheers

@jgaryellison The vocal directions in my opinion are better than TomTom’s. Copilot is very much better value than tomtom if you are just buying the software for your phone.

I’m in the uk but have a trip to Canada planned for Monday 12th April
and wanted to know if I purchase co pilot north America maps from the AppStore for my iPhone and then if I use co pilot when in Canada will it only work with a data connection ?
I will be turning off my data roaming for my trip so don’t want to incur any charges for using sat nav
the reason I ask is the latest review on the AppStore says you need to use data when roaming
can you confirm for me if this is true???
June 22nd, 2010 at 8:31 am
It works primarily via a GPS reciever in your phone or an external reciever if you choose to have one.
There is a an internet feature on it but you don’t have to use it.
This for version 7 at least.
June 22nd, 2010 at 9:00 am
I have Co-Pilot 7 and you can definitely change the onscreen keyboard to a QWERTY setup so I’m susprised the newer version doesn’t have this abilty as well.
There is one or bits I didn’t see you go into but I don’t know if that’s because it’s a different version to me.
June 22nd, 2010 at 9:53 am
Not sure if anyone else has discovered this in the latest update, but for some reason the app doesn’t remember my ‘at turn’ turn warning settings when starting or restarting the app. I have to go back in and uncheck and recheck the ‘at turn’ box for it to register the setting correctly. Does anyone else have this issue?
By the way im using an iphone 3G (latest os) and CoPilot Live 8 version 8.0.0.651 (UK).
I’ve reset, redownloaded and reinstalled and its still the same…

June 22nd, 2010 at 12:15 pm
does it able to play music while navigating?
June 22nd, 2010 at 12:37 pm
Many thanks for this video!
An interesting question might be: what happen if you are driving and receive a phone call?
That is… after answering, are you able to go back to the navigation software, like Navigon does?
This might be very important if you are travelling and have to do a long phone call; it might be a shame if we have to choose between talking and driving (of course using a headset!).
Really thanks again for your nice work here
June 22nd, 2010 at 1:23 pm
Thanks for the review!
Can you pinch-zoom on the map?
And I wonder whose maps are more detailed, for example Tomtom’s maps are terribly outdated for Ireland(Rep).
June 22nd, 2010 at 2:16 pm
Gives vocal directions, like tomtom does.
June 22nd, 2010 at 2:27 pm
Question: Does it give vocal directions? Or do you have to always be looking at it to know when to turn?
June 22nd, 2010 at 3:21 pm
Dose it work without data plan or I need
internet?
June 22nd, 2010 at 3:59 pm
can you use live services for free on the copilot ??
June 22nd, 2010 at 4:43 pm
thx mate u saved me a lot of money
June 22nd, 2010 at 5:33 pm
If anybody is wondering the app has been updated quite a bit since this review and has actually solved some of the flaws pointed out here. The keyboard is your usual iphone keyboard now so it’s dead easy to type in addresses or postcodes.
June 22nd, 2010 at 6:14 pm
yes
June 22nd, 2010 at 6:34 pm
can you play music when on the app?
June 22nd, 2010 at 7:23 pm
Oh, a ROUNDABOUT in 50 yards. I could NOT figure out what that symbol was, but I guess in Scotland you go left around a traffic circle. Curious about the traffic, but otherwise, great review, thanks for saving me $75!
June 22nd, 2010 at 8:21 pm
if you do more reviews…. stop shaking things that your showing!! It kinda gives like a see sick to some people.
Cheers!!
June 22nd, 2010 at 8:37 pm
Is there a 7 digit postcode search facility?
June 22nd, 2010 at 8:38 pm
But tomtom is still more expensive, so its still a 3rd of the price.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

With the world slowly moving to the much-dreaded energy crisis, it is important that we reduce our dependency on non-renewable sources of energy. Non-renewable sources being renewable are about to get extinct. Renewable energy solutions refer to those energy solutions that can keep churning energy without exhausting the resources. Three types of energy solutions fall into the category of renewable energy solutions: solar energy solutions, hydro energy solutions, and wind energy solutions. Anyways, you can read more about it

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your thoughts? I mean, what you say is important and everything. But its got no punch, no pop! Maybe if you added a pic or two, a video? You could have such a more powerful blog if you let people SEE what youre talking about instead of just reading it.

The woodworking craft is a hobby that can be very satisfying. It feels great to know that you’ve built the nice things that you have in your home and your family will most likely be very happy about it as well. This is a great hobby to have and it can become your profession one day if you spend enough time on it.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Wow!, this was a great article. In theory I’d like to write like this as well – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say is that I procrastinate way too much and never seem to get something done

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

There are some interesting points in time in this article however I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There’s some validity however I will take hold opinion till I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we wish extra! Added to FeedBurner as nicely
