Clearly, the Evo (with default settings) doesn’t hold a candle to the iPhone 4 (with default settings). I’m sure other camera apps would force the device(s) to record differently, but this test was designed to compare phone defaults. While the iPhone isn’t perfect, I’d certainly consider it a Flip, Kodak Zi*, and Vado killer. You are more than welcome to upload your own tests as video responses to this.

@rminb010204 Why should he have to do that out of the box? The average consumer should NOT have to do custom roms. I use Android, love Android, but I would never tell anyone this. The iPhone totally won this round.

@goldcrownkingmod Honestly, if Chris was being sincere in his “first impressions” video, then so be it. I can’t prove otherwise. I’ve been watching his vids regularly for a few years now and I’m not going to unsubscribe because of some EVO vs iPhone madness. I’m liking his “intelligent life” video much more. haha
I guess I’ve been a regular viewer for a long time and his “first impressions” video just rubbed me the wrong way. He can’t please everybody, every day.

@goldcrownkingmod I’m not making stupid comments. All I said is that after the “first impressions” video I’m just a little weary of taking Chris’s word on this. This test may be totally legit, it probably is, but that’s just how I feel. This has nothing to do with any other content Chris puts up; I’m only talking about this EVO vs. iPhone crap, which is getting seriously tired. lol
They’re both good phones and I can’t see anyone going wrong getting either one of them.

@labszo74 An indoor test, I’m not sure. I was speaking of outdoor more specifically. Indoor lighting doesn’t give great results for any camera, under normal circumstances. The outdoor EVO tests that I’ve seen look great.

Reading all the EVO owners in denial is hilarious- adjust the settings, new firmware will fix,etc,blah,blah.. Guys. read your own freaking manual. Open up your own video files in VLC, Windows Media or Quicktime. Be prepared to cry because the media-info meta-data will make you squeam. The embedded meta-data info of YOUR OWN files don’t lie. Set yourself free from your delusions. The EVO fails. Inferior codec. Inferior recording bitrate.

@gulch1969 But this also proves another one of his points. The user shouldn’t have to do that to decent video quality. The default settings should at least be acceptable.

I’m curious how the two compare at a lower resolution. bc honestly, if you really NEED 720p recording, you’re probably going to want a dedicated recording device.
even though the audio on this is pretty bad…

Try a Firmware update. Custom baked roms give you great video recording performance.

iPhone 4 definitely the winner…. audio is much much clearer and video is a bit better too.

I own a evo and you may be able to adjust the picture a bit, but I watched both videos, and the iPhone assaulted the evo and the audio sounded like Chris had a sock on it. Wait a minute, did you put a gym sock over it and do this video. Jk iPhone …ftw. sorry HTC.
